I need to be more serious!

So it is my first semester here at Scraft, and it was not as easy as I though it was going to be.  Not to mention that I took four classes to start with.  I find that I need to take school a little more serious than I have been latley.  I dont have a computer so that does stop me from doing a lot of the homework assignments that I need to do or emails that I may need to write or send for that matter.  Oh and another thing I did have this boy on my mind but now that I ended things with him for a while, I know that I can concentrate on school the way that I want to.  And its not so much that he stopped me or I didnt do  it because of him I just thought about him a lot.  But thats over and I am on a fresh start, so I am happy.

What should my research topic be?

I am stumped once again.  I don’t know what I want to do for my research topic, and not even one thing comes to mind.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Its all about the Myspace.

So as young teenage kids begin to explore the world, they find things a long the way that can help express themselves.  For instance My-space.  They can post their favorite picture, play their favorite song and even have the coolest background that best represents who they are.  But is this really who they are as a person.  I am no one to judge my-space, I will admit I have an account but in all honesty I am not all that interested.  I find myself just liking that I can have a glimpse on what people are doing with their life.  For instance the ex-boyfriend, or maybe even his new girlfriend that you can sit and stare at until your face turns blue contemplating whether or not she is prettier than you.  Or even to just be noisy on someone else that you don’t know.  We all want to know what we don’t know.  I think that the pictures the people put on their my-space represent themselves well.  I mean you have the people that show off how skinny they are or how big there abs are, or what sexy face they can pose next.  But you also have the simple who have just a simple picture of themselves trying to look their best, or have an icon so you don’t know who they are at all.  Or even better, block you from seeing past their picture.  The people, including myself post these things just to say here I am see what I am all about and tell me what you think.  Insecure?  Maybe.  But I think its just knowing that you might think your better than the next person who comes along to look at your my-space and that makes you feel ten times better.  I plead guilty!

Is It a sloppy website?

Today  in class we discussed what websites would be good to use when looking up research.  We came up with many ideas, but how do you know if the website is a 100% with there accusations; the facts the show in the paragraph.  This is a list of things that would represent it is a sloppy site:

1. First the author; do we know who wrote it. Was it a fourth grader or was it a 4 year college student for example.

2.  Who is the publisher?

3.  What does the website look like?

*is there any spelling or graphic errors?

4. Does it have a date?  How long ago was this information processed.

So when you are out there doing your research, this is a list of four things that will help you decide if it is a sloppy site.

Chapter 3 and 4.

I just got done taking my chapter 3 and 4 test, and I was so nervous.  I think that I did ok.  When it comes to taking test, I am always the one to panic.  I want to know my grade then that very moment or it bugs me for a long time.  I am always the type of peson that is confident in myself but at the same time think I am going to fail to.  I question myself “do I need to read the question one more time so I understand it,” “should I go back and change that answer?”.  These are the few things that pop into my head when I am taking a test.  For once I wish my consience would be on my side.  But the good news is I am glad that one is over and I can start to study for my next one.  Is there anyone out there thats just like me? LOL

The Massachusetts Bay

On February 7th in history 151, my group partners, Niki, Josh, Aleah and I researched the Massachusetts Bay.  With little computer use and very few books we compiled our information together.  Overlooking all my information I wrote down notes so that way I wouldn’t forget a thing.

The puritans were very religious.  They lived in New England and their job was to modify and purify the churches.  New England wanted the Puritans to practice outside the church and convert into their religion.  The Purtians who did not abide by these were rules were prosecuted.  The Puritans then went by ship across the Atlantic.  There were about 11 ships that arrived at the Massachusetts bay.  When the puritans went to the bay they were able to build their own colonizations and reform their own government, as well as practicing their own religion.

As a group we didn’t get into much detail, just a small presentation and I think that it went very well.  I really enjoy working in groups and working together as a team.  I felt very comfortable knowing that if our facts were wrong it wasn’t just my fault.  I look forward to doing more research on the Massachusetts bay.  I will do my best to keep you updated with my information.

               Until my next blog.

What to write?

So every day in class I think about what I should write in my next blog. I cannot seem to think of anything. It seems to be that there is really nothing that is interesting me where I start to type and can’t stop. I know that the blogs are a reflection on class, but some of these things just are not very appealing to me. Is there anyone out there that has any suggestions to becoming a good blog writer? I am feeling very lost. Beleive me I love to write I just dont know what about.

Ethnocentrism

The practice of looking at the world as if your own cultures viewpoint is the most valid and perceptive.

This is the definition of ethnocentrism.  And to be completely honest it doesn’t mean very much to me at this point I feel that the way I live is not the right way, but I do not think that it is the wrong way either.  Every culture is taught a different way of living for a reason, and that reason lies in the culture itself.  When people from over seas move to America they experience the way that we live our ethnocentric way not because they have to but because they choose to.  We as people on the other hand have the choice of who we are encountered with.  We choose are social groups.

The movie that we watched on ethnocentrism I thought was very mind filling.  I have a lot of questions and very few answers.  What is the right way to live in America?  I really like when he said that the most distance between people is not space it is culture.  I strongly agree.  I find most people I know very judgemental when it comes to other cultures.  I don’t think that the way you live is because you have to live that way but it is because you choose to live that way.  If anyone was ever interested in living in an Indian civilization they could, but they choose not to.  They are already satisfied with the way that they live now.  So what is the right way?

The Hateful Things Museum

I went to the hateful things museum today and it was absolutely amazing.  There were so many things that were done back in the early 1900′s its beyond any of my beliefs.  I don’t understand though why it was just focused on African American racism, when back then there was racism everywhere with all types of races.   It goes to show the diversity as well.  I honestly felt the remorse in the room, a vibe that was more than enough to know that everyone in that room rather it be white or black had been racist or said a racist comment in there life time.  And no that doest even mean that there  racist people either, but it is the way that we grow up in our environment.  For instance you see more African Americans living in Detroit than you do white, and that is because people like ourselves have mad it that way.  We put forth false judgment as well as true judgement.  But I strongly believe that we make our society what it is.
